The Inspiration

The idea of the Colorado Teen and Family Center has been an idea in the making for over a decade. Growing up in an alcoholic home and having many family members struggle with addiction, I experienced the devastating effects of addiction throughout my childhood, adolescence, and adulthood. I have been in the mental health/addiction treatment field for 25 years, I have seen a gap in services for teens who are affected by addiction as well as families. Addiction not only affects the individual struggling but the entire family. I am so excited to have my dream come to life and help others on their recovery journey. I dedicate the CTFC to my aunt Maggie. She passed away July 24th, 2018. She had 34 years of sobriety and dedicated her life to helping others find recovery. My family is an example how the ripple effect of recovery can change generations of addiction to a new family legacy.

About Me

I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in the State of Colorado.   In addition to living in Colorado, I have lived in the Hoosier State of Indiana and my native state of sunny California. I have had the opportunity to work in many capacities through my career such as: IOP coordinator for Wabash Valley Hospital/Lafayette Indiana, Drug Court, Hazelden Betty Ford Children’s Program, and University of Colorado Hospital CeDAR Family Program. The best part of being a therapist/educator/supervisor has been working with individuals, children/teens, couples, and families who have shared their life stories, their emotional pain, and their triumphs with me. I have witnessed so much courage, vulnerability, resilience, and transformation.

It truly can be painstaking to find the right therapist because the most important part of therapy is the therapeutic relationship. This relationship should feel safe, trusting, and like the right fit. I am trained in Emotional Focused Family Therapy, addiction, and children and families who have been impacted by addiction. I continually attend numerous conferences, workshops, and training's which have equipped me to grow as a clinician. Other areas of experience include: grief/loss, survivors of domestic violence, depression, anxiety, emotional focused couples therapy, attachment wounds, parenting in early recovery, individuals in early recovery, and compassion fatigue. I also enjoy supervising practicum/intern students and individuals seeking hours for licensure.

Aside from my career, I have a wonderful husband and two amazing daughters and step sons. Also, I can’t forget about our furry family members, Shae our dog, and Scout our cat.  I enjoy spending time with extended family, hiking, traveling, baking, reading, and walking my dog Shae.
